Couples that are Cousins share more genetic material than random couples and have a greater chance of both carrying a gene for a genetic disorder like cystic fibrosis or muscular dystrophy for example.


This usually applies to 1st cousins only as there is not that much evidence that 2nd cousins or higher share that much genetic info.Why is it scientificaly not good for cousins to get married with each others?
Well people above me already mentioned the bad genetic mix that could result - for me, the only evidence I need is that MOST of society cringes at the thought of being intimate with a family member - normal society anyway imo.
Marriage isn't the problem, its reproducing. However, this isn't as much of a recipe for disaster that most people seem to think it is. With the phrase ';kissing cousins'; comes images of horribly mutated children. The main issue with close relatives having children is that relatives share many of the same genes. When two people with a recessive gene that carries some genetic disease have children, that gene has a good chance of showing up in the child. There's a slim chance of it with cousins. The main worries are with siblings who reproduce, especially if incest goes back more than one generation. Although there isn't much likelihood of mutated children, why take that chance? Not to mention that its illegal...its definitely not something I'd recommend.

well there is nothing wrong in getting married to your cousin, it doesn't mean that you are going to do anything or have kids., but I think that getting the perfect combo of getting some disease is pretty low anyway. If you love each other then go for it. Because noone else would be living with you anyway, so you decide your life.
first of all thats sick, second of all they are too close related in blood and any child would probably be mentally retarded
