How to get married in Nisyros?

My fiance and I have the idea to marry on the tiny Greek island of Nisyros where we went on holiday when we were 18.





Does anyone have any advice for how we should do it? Is it a good idea to employ some sort of international/Greek wedding planner? Is there such a thing?





We'd really love to do it, but will it be majorly stressful?

I cannot answer for Nisyros but I got married last week on the Greek Island of Ithaca. My advice.....


If you know where you want to get married and can get in touch with them directly by email you dont need a UK based wedding planner - ours did nothing on that front. Explore the hotel websites on your island and see if any of them are registered for weddings.


You will need someone professional to take care of the paperwork. Even if you dont organise the whole wedding through them, alot of Greek/UK wedding planners will offer a document service and this is pretty essential - not complicated but lots of documents to get certified and translated...leave it to a professional!


Generally you will need to be on you chosen island for 8 working days prior to the wedding - this will give you plenty of time to organise somewhere for your reception. Assuming you wont have a massive party most tavernas would just need a few days notice to put together a party for up to 20 people.


Lastly, the Greeks love a wedding - they will go all out to be hospitable, will put alot of effort it into for you and will make the whole experience magically relaxing for you. Once you have organised the basics - leave the rest to them rather than try to organise every small detail, they wont disappoint you - lovely lovely people. Hope that helps.
