Why do people treat you differently when you're not married?

For instance, if you're an odd one out in your family that's not married, over 30 years old, and don't have a full-time job. Why do people treat you differently? How can you overcome that feeling by defending your way of living? Why do people treat you differently when you're not married?
I'm sorry, in case this applies to you.

I reckon they feel sorry for you and try to make you feel miserable, so you can analyze what went wrong, and improve your quality of life. Very often, this is not the case, so I suggest you think of it as a ';natural reaction';. However, at some point you get fed up with all their ';care';, and want them to leave you alone.

And that's fine.

My advice: whenever they start talking to you about your situation, say that this is the way you like and want it. Sound firm. Be strong.

And, anyway, it's not right and it's not fair that a grown man has to defend his habits and lifestyle just to suit his family.

Hope that helps. Why do people treat you differently when you're not married?
They either give you sympathy, or think that you're a slacker most of the time, just because you're not the ideal person. I just smile and nod politely to whatever the hell they're saying.
