I think that ';I love you.'; and ';I love you too.'; should be enough for god.
One does not have to be legally married to be married in God's eyes. Case in point would be if you were in many countries like those in Africa where there are no courts to register a marriage. Legal marriage is a totally man-made concept which did not exist during certain points in Biblical history. Abraham and Sarah is one example. Jacob and his wives are other examples. It was a non-issue after the destruction of the Temple for non-Roman citizens.
I believe the marriage vows have only been considered suffieciently holy to be included in Church liturgy for about 700 yrs.
In God'd eye's, when a man leaves his Father and Mother to be with a woman, and he makes love to her, that is supposed to be his wife.

What matters is that you are legally and spiritually married.
