I just got married and I have NO IDEA how to clean my apartment (NEVER cleaned before)?

I have one room, one bathroom, a kitchen and living room. Please can someone give me some tips on how to clean (my bath tub is already rusty and I have piles of laundry to do)

PLEASE HELp

thank youI just got married and I have NO IDEA how to clean my apartment (NEVER cleaned before)?
1. Pick up all clothing that is dirty and find it a home in a hamper.

2. Pick up all things that can be trash and put them in the garbage can.

3. Anything left on the floor should be put in its place, wherever that may be.

4. If you DUST, dust the tv, tables, picture frames, anything with DUST ON IT.

5. Vacuum every carpetted floor and rug.

6. Sweep all tiled/wood floors and either use a dust pan to pick it up and trash it or use the vacuum to suck it up.

7. Wash the floors with a wet swiffer and some cleaner (I used lysol or windex with vinager). Let dry.

8. Ok, start laundry with towels and sheets. Large load, cold water, add soap (cup of baking soda is good too), let it go.

9. While waiting on first load of laundry start on the dishes...

if you have a dishwasher do all the pots and pans first.

if you washing by hand start with the silverware and plates... work your way down to the bottom of the sink.

10. Switch first load from washer to dryer... start new load, maybe all the denim jeans/shorts, if those aren't more than twelve pair throw the boxers in there too.

11. Go back to dishes, until they are finished.

12. Tackle all the toilets with some toilet cleaner or a splash of bleach either is fine whatever you have.

13. Next, for rust stains try with CLR or IRON OUT, spread some on the stains or through out the tub, let sit for about 15 minutes. Then scrub it down, rinse throughly.

14. Take towels/sheets out of dryer and put second load in dryer.

15. Put away first load of laundry.

16. Start third load of laundry, colored shirts/undies/other

17. Next, put fresh sheets on the bed if not already there.

18. Alright now you can go through the house and collect the trash form cans and bag it up and take it out.

19. Dishes should be getting dry, you can put some away, dry the rest or let them air dry longer.

20. Switch the laundry again, wash white, befor eyou put in clothing add the soap and bleach and let the water get at least half full before you add clothes.

21. Now put up other laundry... as needed, as it finishes.

22. Once dishes are put up, take a cleaner like windex of lysol and wash down the counter tops and fronts of cabinet doors.

This should have the house looking pretty good. You can keep it up easier if you follow a routine. Congrats on the wedding... I won't ask why you have never cleaned before... but good for you with the helping out.I just got married and I have NO IDEA how to clean my apartment (NEVER cleaned before)?
Put the laundry into the washer with some detergent and turn it on while you start washing the dishes with soapy water, scrub the tub with BarKeepers Friend (a powder in a gold canister in the cleaning aisle by the Comet and Ajax) and a 3m scrubber. Wipe the rest of the bathroom down with a rag and a spray bottle filled with 3 1/2 cups water and 1/2 cup white vinegar. It will clean, sanitize and disinfect everything. Don't forget to put the clean laundry into the dryer and put your sheets in so they are clean and fresh for tonight.
www.flylady.com is a great resource. ESPECIALLY if you're brand new to the game of housekeeping.

My favorite tip is to ';shine the sink';. This just means that you go to bed only after the kitchen sink is empty of all dirty dishes and wiped clean and dry.

In the mornings after your daily abolutions take the wash cloth and wipe off the sink, faucets and counter just to keep ahead of the fuzz and gunk.

Do a general ';pick up'; every day. Take a laundry basket or treat yourself to a cute but functional wicker basket for the daily task. Go around your home or apartment and pick up anything that is in the wrong place and put it in the basket. Start at one end of the house and work your way through. As you move along your route, if something is in your basket that belongs in the room you're in now, put it away.

Make sure you establish right now a place for keys, sunglasses, cell phone/blackberry etc. and make sure those things get put there every stinkin' time you walk in the door. That way, if you get into that habit you won't be looking under discarded newspapers and junk mail for them when you're ready to leave.

Speaking of discarded newspapers, get another cute but functional basket for them and put them there after you've read them. Once a week, haul them to the recyle bins!

If your home is large consider one of those foldable carts (like old ladies use to bring groceries home from the market) and store all your cleaning supplies in there. It makes it a quick job to take your supplies with you and have them at arms reach. (Think about the hotel housekeeping staff!!)

If your place is small, you can get by with a 5 gallon bucket ';apron'; or --you knew I was going to say it, didn't you??--a cute but functional plastic lined wicker basket!

As for the laundry---is it just the two of you? Do yours on one day and let your spouse do his/hers another. Each of you choose your laundry day and just do it. Just for fun, you might gather up all your laundry that is piled up and hit the laundrymat with a pizza and have a good, old-fashioned married-folk date night. That will get the laundry caught up and then you can start afresh!

Happy homemaking!
Hire a maid.
Never cleaned before? Where did you live, in a palace? Well, if you can't borrow one of the servants to show you how it's done, there're some really good books available which cover basic cleaning as well as tips for the more difficult problems.

As far as your laundry goes - I'd check the items (there's a label on the inside with cleaning instructions) to be sure they can handle washing and/ or going in the dryer. Then sort them into delicates, lights and darks. Be sure that everything is colour fast! Hand wash doubtful items separately. Your washing machine will have instructions on the appropriate cycle to use on the inside of the lid. I'm assuming you won't have any heavily soiled, if you do that's a separate load too. Use cold water and a cold water detergent - it's environmentally responsible, saves your power bill, and isn't going to damage your clothing. If you don't have an outside line to hang your wash, use the dryer for the items that can handle it, and get yourself a fold up airer for those that can't.

For cleaning up the apartment: start at the top and work down. ie Clean bench tops, tables etc first, then vacuum and mop floors.

good luck and don't worry - you'll get the hang of it.
hire a maid service and watch what they do.
Why do you want to clean?Think about it.If it doesn't bother the two of you, then why?I could live in a cave myself and it wouldn't bother me.
Why not ask your Mom if she is around? I simply cannot believe you have never cleaned before. Who cleaned after you when you were growing up? If your Mom did, you'd better treat her like a Queen, young lady.
How have you never cleaned before? Get a roll of paper towels, a scrub brush (or scrubby sponge), clorox cleanup, pledge multisurface, and some windex. Follow directions on bottles. As for laundry separate into four piles whites, lights, darks, and towels/ sheets. Pick up some tide liquid and some bounce sheets and follow the directions on the bottle and box. Also your washer and dryer should have settings and instructions. Room by room Checklist!

For the tub: get a Mr. Clean Sponge because they will cut your cleaning and scrubbing time down. It's a great product.

Get some toilet bowl cleaner that clings to the side of the bowl. Just follow the instructions on back.

Dust. Vacuum. Wash the floors. It's very easy to clean an apartment.
