Can you be married in both a same sex & straight marriage at the same time?

I have a friend that had a civil union in 2003. 4 years ago my friend and there life partner split for good. Never got the union dissolved. Now my friend is about to get married in a straight relationship. Is that legal? Should my friend get the civil union dissolved first? Can you be married in both a same sex %26amp; straight marriage at the same time?
Get it dissolved.

Otherwise your friend may face bigomy charges. There are some jurisdictions where being married to more than one person at a time is a crime.

Human laws are strange, the concept of marriage is entirely foreign to cats, but we do sometimes have faithful long term partnerships....Can you be married in both a same sex %26amp; straight marriage at the same time?
Yes, it is and yes he should.

Oddly, I read that any persons living together (in some states) whether it be gay, straight, friends or just room mates after 7 years are considered ';domestic partners';!
If your friend lives in a State that doesn't recognize gay unions, than it is not illegal, since the State doesn't accept that first union as valid.

But your friend should probably get the union disolved anyways.
