I had a teacher in the past claimed he and his wife had to get blood tested to get married is such a thing true and why??? Im afraid of needles!!!Do you have to get blood tested to get married in the roman catholic church?
It's not a requirement of any church, but some states require it. You didn't say where you live (or plan to be married) but if you're in the U.S. you can find out what the requirements are and if any blood tests are required here:
http://www.usmarriagelaws.com/search/uni鈥?/a>Do you have to get blood tested to get married in the roman catholic church?
The state requires the blood tests, not the Church.
Therefore, if you have a beef with the blood tests, take it to your state government. The Church has nothing to do with it.
I don't know anyone who ';likes'; needles.
If you don't love your wife enough to tolerate a needle poke, you probably don't love her enough to warrant even thinking about marriage, not yet anyway.
Couples USED to have their blood tested to find out if they had Rh issues.
Here's the deal. If both were + blood types, no problem. If both were - blood types, no problem. If the wife was + and the husband was =, no problem. But if the wife was - and the husband was + , they would be told they could not have children together because it would be too dangerous. What could happen is the baby's + blood type could sicken the mother and cause ';maternal death.';
Now they have antidotes for this. If the mother is - and the father is +. the mother gets a shot at about the 30th week of pregnancy. When the baby is born, they quickly test the baby's blood type and if the baby is +, the mother gets a second shot.
Because of the antidote, couples no longer have to have their blood tested to get a marriage license. It never had anything to do with the Catholic Church.
I am married and was married in the Catholic Church. I did not have to get a blood test for it. As far as I know, even civil ';justice of the peace'; type marriages don't require it.
There is so much misinformation about Catholics and Catholicism floating around out there. Beware. If you want valid information, talk to a priest or deacon, or a practicing Catholic that can be trusted.
NOOOOOOOO I've never heard of that before! That would be awful if you had to and it just sounds absurd. What does my blood have to do with my faith is what I would ask. Anyway, my sis got married 2yrs ago and never had to do that and I am getting married in a yr and haven't been asked to do that either so I'm quite positive that your teacher told a little fib!
At one point yes, but not anymore
It was to make sure that any children that resulted from said union wasn't born with any Rh factor problems
Edit: LOL @ all the thumbs down, its very true that you being Rh - and the father being Rh+ would cause a problem with the pregnancy!

If you want to be legally married, you must have a marriage license from the state. Whether or not you need a blood test varies from state to state. It has nothing to do with the sacrament of marriage, but with the civil requirement. God bless you.
As far as I know it is not the Church who orders this blood tests. In the past my parents say they got tested but it was legal marriage who ordered it, not the Church. It is done just to ';make sure'; you two are not blood related. That's my understanding
No.
This is a legal requirement of the State for the marriage license and not a requirement of the Catholic Church.
However, the Church will require you to get the license before marrying you.
With love in Christ
To get a marriage license in MOST States you need a blood test - it has nothing to do with religion or the catholic church. I know Nevada you don't need one but in many other states in the U.S.A. you still do.
There are consanguinity laws in the Church, meaning two people of close relation cannot marry, but a blood test would rarely be needed to determine this.
That was a long time ago before we had better medicine...different blood types would cause Jaundice and other abnormalities in the children.
Some states require this to receive a marriage license, but it is not a requirement of the catholic church.
No. When I got married to my wife in 2004 we were not required to get our blood tested by our Catholic Parish.
Where in the hell do you get such wrong information from?
I am Catholic and was married in the Catholic Church. The answer is no.
I can't think of any reason why that can possibly be true. I think they were being sarcastic.
The State requires it not the Church sorry Have the Obama remove it from his new health plan to save on costs...
I do not think so.
i think tahts a lie.
No, I don't think so.
